Chinmaya Mission Guyana found its roots in Georgetown, thanks to the dedicated efforts of Swami Prakashanandaji, the Head of Chinmaya Mission Trinidad and Tobago. Guided by his wisdom, the mission flourished, and a gathering of over 200 people witnessed his profound words about the progress and noble endeavors of Chinmaya Mission in Guyana.
An unforgettable evening unfolded at the Chandni Banquet Hall in Toronto, Canada, as four esteemed artists, namely Hemant Panwar, Pt. Devanand Ramoutar, Pt. Rajin Balgobind, and Sumana Ganguly, took to the stage. The presence of Swami Prakashananda Ji, Swamini Shivapriyanandaji, and Swami Bhajananandaji added a spiritual aura to our first Fundraising Concert. Chapter 2: Rising to a Philosophical Realm -2
Here we are entering into a field of philosophical analysis, which is not the way in which people ordinarily think. We cannot know what is wrong unless we know what is right. It is not possible to see only wrong and nothing else. But a prosaic mind will not know this secret behind the functioning of the human mind. He will say the whole world is evil, wretched, stupid. That is all he can say, and nothing else. This is how we generally define and complain about our experiences in life and our idea about things in the world. This is prosaic, unphilosophical, because one does not know the meaning of what one is saying. The detection of evil in the world is itself an indication of the fact that there should also be something other than what is evil. That we have a capacity within ourselves to detect evil and ugliness in the world should show that we also have a capacity within us to see something beyond evil and ugliness.
Therefore, we do not belong only to this world of sensory phenomena. If that were so, we could not know that it is phenomena at all. One who is involved in the phenomena cannot know it is such. This is, again, a peculiar feature of philosophical analysis. We cannot know that there is death unless we are superior to the phenomenon of death. We cannot know that something is passing unless we are standing on something which is not passing. Hence, philosophy is a study of suggestions which are secretly embedded beneath the observed experiences and the phenomena of life.
But as pearls are hidden deep in the bowels of the ocean and are not floating on the surface, this endowment in every human being enabling him to analyse his own experiences is not on the surface of life. Outwardly we are shells of individuals, but inwardly we are treasures. If we view ourselves only as what we appear on the surface, we look worthless, like broken pieces of glass. But our hopes and aspirations, our anxieties and expectations for a better day in the future, and a subtle longing to be immortal if possible, is again suggestive of a great possibility before us of a good day to come.
Here we seem to be discovering an element in us which is not a property of this world. We are not wholly citizens of this world; we are only partially inhabitants of this realm of the Earth. In a more important sense we seem to be belonging to something else, some other level of experience, some other order of reality, which is what keeps us restless and hoping for more and more expansiveness in our comprehension and for happier days to come.
What are the implications, the suggestions which we can discover behind and beneath our tumultuous conflicts of outward life? It is that there should be a coordinating principle, a feature that connects phenomena into a well-knit fabric of completeness. Though things appear totally different from one another, we are able to see that they are different. Things are scattered in all directions with no apparent connection, and one thing seems to have no relation to another. But we are able to know that one thing is not related to another thing. Here is a very important suggestion behind the working of our own minds. That there is chaos and conflict and irreconcilability is one thing, but that we are able to know that there is chaos and conflict and irreconcilability is another thing altogether. How are we capable of discovering the presence of chaos and irreconcilability and difference in things?

12. Ahimsa: Non-injury is our highest virtue (Ahimsa Paramo Dharmah). Compassion is a divine quality. Protection of animals is our sacred duty. This is India’s special teaching. Let us be compassionate towards all creatures. Thus be a true Indian. Try to become an embodiment of kindness compassion and goodness in your every day life.
13. Ecology: Man and Nature are inseparable. Man and his natural environment are inter-related and mutually interdependent. Everything in Nature contributes to our protection and nourishment. Let us, therefore, protect our natural environment. Helping in maintaining the ecological balance is our duty. It is indispensable for our safe living and highest welfare. Polluting of public places and polluting of air and water of the country is a national crime. We must make amends of our past lapses.
14. Unity: The more united the people of a country, the greater is their ability to withstand all obstacles and dangers. United we stand, divided we fall. This is particularly true about today’s India. Therefore, let us live in close harmony and loving goodwill with all our countrymen. Love of our country means love of our countrymen. This is the most invaluable service a Citizen of India, can offer to our Motherland.
